How did you get introduced to hickory golf? What year did you start playing hickories?
In the late 80’s I had been a collector of antique golf clubs for years as well as the classics. A good friend Bobby Farino suggested I make up a set of hickories. I played my first round with him at Williamsburg VA.
What is your fascination with Hickory Golf? Why do you think golfers should try playing hickories?
Hickory golf is an experience that more closely relates to the game as it was played when I was a young player. The ball has been a bad thing in my mind for modern golf but actuall helps the hickory player. Hickory golf brings your mind into play and makes shots interesting and fun.
What advice would you give to a new hickory golfer? Or a new hickory golfer looking to put together a playing set?
If you want a set you can go and play pretty well from the start go with my reproduction clubs. Once you Start playing then you can decide to try old clubs.

Driver— I hit it, for me, long with a little draw. Love it!!!
What golf ball do you traditionally play with hickory clubs?
Srixon Soft Feel either standard or reminded with small dimples.
What is your most prized hickory club, hickory era memorabilia or most interesting find?
Well over the years I have had some super rare clubs that are now in a few puplushed books but I think the set I found of all Danga wood Gibson clubs-4 woods-8 irons and Putter used to win the 1932 Irish Am were pretty neat.
What is your most proudest accomplishment on/off the golf course?
I have two very similar. Being honored in my home States golf hall of Fame and in hickory golf The Mike Brown Award.
What is your favorite hickory golf course?
Royal Troon.
What is your most recent addition to your hickory golf bag? Why?
Links putter. I wanted a wooden mallet.
